About Startups Science

Startups Science is a wall where startups evolve. Every startup begins at the 💥 Big Bang, the first of 70 stages, and climbs a tree of life from there: primordial soup, the first cells, plants and animals, tools, cities and finally a galaxy. What moves a startup up is not money or ads. It is other founders helping it, and you showing up.

How it works

  1. Add your startup, free. Sign in with Google, give it a name, a website, a one-line pitch and a category. It goes live on the wall at once. Each account has one startup, and you can edit its details whenever you like.
  2. Help other startups. Vote for a startup, review it, send a suggestion, or report a bug with clear test cases. You can't do any of these on your own startup.
  3. Both sides earn points. The startup you helped earns points, and so does yours. A bug report pays both sides once the founder confirms it, and the sender can report again if it isn't identified. The points for each action are set by us and shown on every button.
  4. Come back every day. Open the wall signed in and you get a daily login bonus for your startup: one bonus a day, small at the start and bigger the higher your startup climbs. It is a slow trickle on top of what you earn by helping others.
  5. Evolve, or level up. Points raise your level. If you would rather not wait, an optional paid level-up moves your startup up a few levels from level 15, never far above the level you have earned.
  6. Evolve. Points raise your level. At a fork in the tree your startup takes a path, chosen by you or picked at random, depending on how the site is set. The most evolved startups are crowned 👑, 🥈 and 🥉 on the leaderboard.

Sponsors

Sponsors put their logo in the background of the wall. A sponsor widget is a small round node, floating slowly across the screen, with the artwork of the phase the sponsor chose and their logo in the middle. A click opens their website. A founder can buy widgets from the Sponsor button on the wall; the price and how many one purchase can hold are shown before paying.

There is no time limit on a sponsorship, and no queue: the newest sponsors take the places. Every phase has room for a limited number of sponsor widgets, so when a newer sponsor buys into a full phase, the oldest widgets there are replaced. A sponsorship can be replaced in part, or entirely, at any time, and sponsor payments are not refunded. The details are in the Terms and the Refund Policy. Until phases fill up, the site's own widgets (our logo, or the most evolved startup) float in the places that are not sold.

Why it exists

Most launch sites reward whoever shouts loudest. Here a startup grows by being useful to others: honest reviews, real ideas and bugs worth fixing are the only way to earn real points. It is a small, friendly place for founders and indie hackers to give and get feedback, and to be seen by each other.

Fair play

Please be genuine. Reviews, suggestions and bug reports are for helping a founder, never for earning points. Entries that aren't genuine can be removed, and the points they earned leave both startups. The details are in the Rules, and what we store and who can see it is in the Privacy Policy.
